Liquid cranachan is how El-Gin - a fruity gin - from Elgin, Moray, has been described. For those unfamiliar, cranachan is a traditional dessert made with raspberries and oats - and unsurprisingly these two ingredients feature in El-gin's DNA.
To taste, El-Gin is a soft and flavoursome gin. The fruits are the first thing you notice, as they combine to give a fresh and crisp mouthfeel. The addition of oats to the distillation process imparts a smooth and creamy texture - equally successful neat over ice or long with a quality tonic.
El-gin gin, or the Elgin gin, is small batch distilled in a traditional copper pot still over a direct heat which allows the distiller to manually control the distillation leaving the resultant flavour profile to the distiller's craft rather than technology. After rigorous nosing and tasting, each batch is hand bottled, sealed and labelled.
El Gin Findrassie Ltd started producing their new western style gin in early 2016. The founders have worked in the whisky industry for a combined twenty five years and brought their distilling experience to this project.
